There are over 275 photonics organizations in Colorado in our 2006 statistics. Each member organization brings its own expertise to the association, allowing rich opportunity to exchange ideas. The wide spectrum of Colorado's photonics industry includes everything from optical components to sophisticated photonics consulting. Before the CPIA, the embedded nature of our technology meant that many were unaware of the scope of the photonics industry here in Colorado. Today, members with varying backgrounds rely on each other for knowledge and services. Combined, our members make Colorado a formidable force in the photonics industry.
CPIA maintains a database of member companies and other entities located throughout the state. Beside each listing there is a brief description as well as a link if applicable, to its website. It is our intent to be a resource not only for our members, but also for people requiring photonics products and services all over the world.

Each year there are four meeting (free to all) held at photonics companies, each featuring a facility tour, networking, and speakers relevant to the industry.
Annual meeting at CU Boulder highlights photonics research from eight Colorado Institutions, awards prizes to a student poster competition and presents three industry awards, including Photonics Company of the Year.
Past/proposed activities include small business breakfasts, evening seminars, and hosting the 2004 SPIE Annual Meeting.
CPIA coordinates the Colorado Cluster at SPIE's "Photonics West" each year, where sixteen companies get a great location and discounted rates.
CPIA publishes a bi-annual directory and industry analysis, given to economic development groups, lawmakers, and potential customers for Colorado's diverse photonics industry.
The CPIA website, continues to be a conduit for resumes and job openings within the state's photonics industry/
CPIA supports and works with several educational groups to promote the need for local technical training and science education.
CPIA has received a significant state grant in order to help grow the photonics industry. THis grant covers hiring an executive director and joining the Advance Colorado Center in Denver where nine emerging technology associations pool resources and collaborate on initiatives.
