National Institute of Standards and Technology
This federal technology agency strengthens the US economy and improves the quality of life by working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards. The reference atomic clock is based in Boulder, Colorado, and so is their Optoelectonics division, which develops standard reference materials for fiber measurements and infrared sources in the 1550nm region, and provides metrology standards for laser measurements. NIST headquarters are in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
The NREL, located in Golden, Colorado is the nation's leading center for renewable energy research. NREL develops new energy technologies to benefit both the environment, and the economy. Their mission is to lead the nation, toward a sustainable energy future by developing renewable energy technologies, improving energy efficiency, advancing related science and engineering, and facilitating commercialization.
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)
Located in Boulder, Colorado NCAR's mission is to plan, organize, and conduct atmospheric and related research programs in collaboration with universities. NCAR facilitates the transfer of technology to both the public and private sectors.
